The city is crowded but quiet
at these in between hours
when shops close
and Grecians come home to sleep
spread on top of sheets
air conditioners humming
like satisfied bees.
They picked us up from the airport
out of a crowd
we stumbled over conversation.
They said it would be hard to understand eachother
both of us speaking foreign languages
but, when she said–
“You will love it here. Life is different.”
And then tripping over her words
fist to heart
“Here. Strong life.”
–nothing was lost in translation.
